One week ago I was recovering from my going away party. I had accepted a promotion for management for Old Chicago and Caleb and I were moving to Lexington, KY by the end of the month. I had to leave for training on Tuesday afternoon. We were excited to start an adventure and see where it took us. Had all the plans and wheels in motion.
I was about 2 days late for my period, no biggie, considering all the stress and change that was taking place. But we picked up a home test at the dollar store the night before, just as a precaution.
So, Tuesday July 5th... I wake up to pack my bags. I go to the bathroom and the little test on the counter reminds me of my plans to take it... so I do. *sidebar---I have taken approximately 20 pregnancy tests in my adult life...I freak myself out almost once a month...I am the result of that .01% that the pill might not work...so this is almost routine to take these at home tests* So I pee on the stick (pardon my boldness) and before I can even pull my pants up there are very plainly 2 solid lines! So I dig in the trash and pull the box out... and sure enough, 2 lines means I'm pregnant. Deep breaths.
I go to Caleb, who is still very soundly sleeping and try and wake him... which is not ever very easy. So I start to become impatient until he finally asks me what the big deal is...and why he needs to get up now? I just looked at him and said "BECAUSE I'M PREGNANT!".................................. He said.... "Oh...." lol
So we come to the living room and sit on opposite sides of the couch and just kind of look off into the blank tv for a while. And he keeps saying "I love you, I just don't know what to say... " over and over. We are both equally as surprised, shocked, scared, excited, nervous, nauseous, and every other word you can think to describe "that" feeling.
Our very first order of business was that I had to decide immediately whether I was leaving for training as scheduled or if we needed to change that decision... but we had to make it quickly. After a trip to Kimmie's where I cried on her couch and a phone call to my sister Amy, who has had a very demanding career while having children, and a phone call to Jessica...where she could hear sadness in my voice, to Brittney who didnt even get a chance to say congratulations because I had to cut her off, one to Emily who was on vacation in the mountains and had no service....and I had to wait ALL DAY to call my mother after she got off work.... so after ALL of that... we decided that picking up and moving away from our support systems, taking on a very demanding new job, and being pregnant was just not an option for us. So I called my boss... who told me "shit happens"... and then..... Finally... once we made that huge decision, and we didn't have to factor in moving... Caleb and I looked at each other and we smiled..and laughed...and cried... and said... "we're going to be parents".....
The more hours that went by the more excited we became. We made the phone calls to our parents (which we both honestly halfway dreaded for fear of judgement) and all of those conversations were wonderful. Caleb's mom asked him why he was upset...and told him that he better get excited cuz she was and this was a blessing. My mom was driving down the road and had to pull over due to her excitement! My Dad was convinced he is too young to be a grandpa and had to literally sit down and take a reaming from my mother before he realized reality... All of our close friends were excited and supportive..but all wanted to make sure we were excited first... and it took us a day or 5.... lol... but we are!
The next day I went to the doctor, to make it "official"... I will be six weeks tomorrow. My due date is March 10th... and I hope it sticks because it will be a wonderful blessing to have my child and my mother have the same birthday! All we talk about with each other, and with everyone else is the baby... our heads are spinning with all of the things we have to accomplish in 9 months. Jobs, childcare, cleanliness, clothes, money, doctors, insurance, rest, reading.... you name it... we're thinking about it.
The only thing I know FOR SURE right now is... Caleb loves me with everything he has and I love him just as much. He's going to be a wonderful father and I am very happy about that choice. Sure we would have loved to have been married and financially set before we brought a new life into the picture... but while we were busy making plans... God showed us his own plan. And I honestly couldn't imagine this week being any different than it has been! =)
This is awesome. I love you all!!
